Did you get up immediately and head for that place? Probably not, but the shepherds, who heard the angels’ announcement of Christ’s birth, did. Throughout eternity, the angles have watched as God unfolded His plan for mankind. They were watching when God created Adam and Eve. They saw that first couple’s disobedience. They watched as sin crept into the world, and God destroyed the world with a flood, except for Noah and his family. The angels watched as God established a tribe of people on earth to be his special people. The angels watched as even those people disobeyed God. Hebrews 1:3
This verse says that Jesus “purged our sins.” This implies that our sins have made us unclean. In Bible times, everyone was aware of leprosy, a very serious health threat of the times. Lepers were confined to colonies outside of town. Sin makes our soul unclean before our Holy God like leprosy made people unclean to society of that time. Jesus’s blood shed on the cross purifies us.
