Hebrews 4:11-13
The book of Hebrews contains many warnings for Christians about making sure that we really are in Christ. This particular passage talks about the convicting power of the Word of God, which is symbolized by the double-edged sword. There are two images woven together in these verses. We see first that God rested on the Sabbath. Then we see Joshua leading the people out of the wilderness into the promised land. These two images represent the same thing. There remains a day of rest for all Christians. In these images we get a glimpse of the beauty of the day of rest to come.
